“Understand your clients need, then work hard to solve their problem. Be thoughtful while communicating openly along the way.”
Dan Kepler is a Partner in the Chicago office, where he primarily serves industrial and technology clients. In 2019, Dan developed and now leads Chartwell’s growing privately held, family business practice. Dan joined Chartwell from Heidrick & Struggles. Previously, he spent 10 years with Russell Reynolds Associates, where he ran their North America Automotive Practice.
Dan recruits senior executives for both private and publicly-traded companies. Though Dan does a great deal of his work in automotive, more recently he has been working with a breadth of clients that include, food, consumer durables, as well as impact, green, or mission-based companies. Nearly all Dan’s work focuses on transformational change. Further, recruiting leaders for private equity (PE), family, and ESOP owned companies has developed into an area of amplified importance. As baby boomers move into their next phase, and PE continues to push aggressively into the middle market, understanding the subtleties and nuances of both has become increasingly valuable.
Prior to his career in executive search, Dan was with AT&T and MCI Telecommunications. In his early career, Dan was an options trader on The Chicago Board Options Exchange and The Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Dan earned his BA in Economics Management from Ohio Wesleyan University and MBA from DePaul University.
